Matt Kobyluck Qualifies 29th For First NASCAR Busch Series Race
(Loudon, N.H. - July 23, 2004) - Matt Kobyluck will make his NASCAR Busch Series debut tomorrow at New Hampshire International Speedway after qualifying 29th best out of 48 cars attempting to make the starting lineup for Saturday's Siemens 200 at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.
The Uncasville, Connecticut driver, piloting the No. 40 Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino Chevrolet Monte Carlo, posted a fast lap of 30.029 seconds (126.837 MPH) around the 1.058-mile oval.
Kobyluck's qualifying effort followed a two hour and fifteen minute practice session where he dialed his car in, fighting a loose condition entering the slightly-banked track's corners.
"We've been throwing everything at the car trying to correct the looseness on entry that we've had all day," he said. "We tried some changes before qualifying to fix that and now it's tight in the middle. That's an easy problem to fix, and we'll be all right for the race. We'll go into Happy Hour and see how we make out. I think we've got an adjustable car with a list of changes we're prepared to make during Happy Hour for the race, and I think we'll have a pretty solid run."
Happy Hour, the nickname for the final practice session before the race, will be run as the last on-track activity of the day Friday.
"Happy Hour will tell us a lot about what we'll have for the race," Kobyluck said. "We'll get some ten- and fifteen-lap runs in to see how the car responds to our changes to get the car handling the way I like it, and then I'll look forward to the race tomorrow."
The Siemens 200 will be broadcast live on TNT with coverage starting at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time.
