Motorsport.com - Kevin Harvick, with a loose car and with his main competitor Jeff Green leading the race, did just what he needed to do -- stay in the race! On the final lap restart, Green ran out of fuel and that sealed the championship for Harvick.

During an emotional and remarkable season for Richard Childress Racing, the team started the year with Kevin Harvick driving the Busch series only. Due to the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Harvick was moved to up to the Cup series to drive the infamous #3. RCR and Harvick made the decision to stay in both the Busch and the Winston Cup series and pull "double duty".

Harvick won his first BGN Championship and RCR entered the record books by winning a Busch title -- the first team in NASCAR history to win at least one championship in each of the three major series. In 1995, Mike Skinner and RCR won the Truck series and in 1986, 87, 90, 91, 93, and 94 the Winston Cup with Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

"I dedicate this season to Dale Earnhardt. He and Richard [Childress] worked hard to get this program going and to win the championship is because of their efforts. The team is the best," said Harvick. The celebration continued at the post race press conference
