Jason Keller motored his No. 57 ppc Racing Ford Taurus to the pole, posting a lap of 126.021 mph at Bristol Motor Speedway. The fast lap clinched his eleventh career Bud Pole award, his second at Bristol.

"I really feel confident that I got everything out of my race car," said Keller. "Somebody can beat that, but I felt good about what I got out of my race car."

This is Keller's second pole of the season, and a welcome bit of good news, as Keller learned earlier this week that Albertson's, his primary sponsor, would not be returning next season.

"I just held on in qualifying," Keller continued. "I didn't know if I could beat the 21 car after he laid down that real fast lap. If I had any more time to think about it I probably would have messed up. Fortunately, I didn't mess up and qualified on the pole."

Kevin Harvick, last week's Michigan winner, has to settle for the outside of the front row. His time was just 0.019 seconds off Keller's lap, who went out for his time trial directly after Harvick. After a heartbreaker in the Craftsman Truck Series race, Harvick will surely be looking for vindication. He is a real threat at the .533-mile short track; he has two wins at this event.

Brian Vickers and the No. 5 Hendrick Chevy team posted a time of 125.782 mph, and will line up third. Winston Cup regulars Michael Waltrip and Tony Raines round out the top five.

Scott Riggs and David Green, who are in a heated battle for the series championship separated by just two points, start seventh and eighth.

"I feel good about it," said Riggs. "I think we'll be OK on long runs. I'm happy we were able to pick it up there in qualifying and it will be a decent starting spot for us, and we'll try to have a solid finish for the race."
