Stremme, Team TRIMSPA Finish Strong in First Kansas Speedway Start
Kansas City, KS (October 9, 2004) - David Stremme qualified ninth for the Mr. Goodcents 300, his first start at Kansas Speedway. From the drop of the green it was evident the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge was headed to the front. By lap 11 Stremme had gained eight spots and moved into the third position on the track despite a slight loose handling condition.
"We had a heck of a car today," said Stremme. "Randy (Cox) brought a new Dodge to the track this weekend. This was my first race at Kansas Speedway. I got to mix it up with the Cup guys all race long. It was a great weekend."
By lap 109 Stremme was battling in the top five when he radioed to the crew that he had a vibration just as a caution was coming out. Under the caution Stremme played it safe by pitting on lap 108 and 111 to make sure no wheel weights were missing, all lug nuts were tight and the air pressures were equalized. With the vibration repaired, Stremme restarted 15th on lap 115, beginning his run to the front.
"We had to fight back after the unscheduled stop," said Stremme. "But when Randy (Cox) made the call to give up what little track position we had gained by pitting under the caution with 25 to go, I knew we had a shot at finishing in the top five."
In the final 20 laps, with a fresh set of tires, Stremme made a run to the front. When the leaders wrecked on lap 200 the stage was set for a green-white-checkered finish with Stremme in fourth position. In the last two laps Stremme picked off one more position to finish third.
"This finish is exactly what the TRIMSPA Team was looking for," said Stremme. "It's been an up and down season and we just want to have some more races like this by the end."
Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will spend next weekend at home in Charlotte, NC as they compete in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 Friday, October 15th. The event will be televised live at 8 p.m. eastern time on TNT and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with PRN and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
