Go Jayhawks... Casey Mears and his Phillips 66 team will run a special paint scheme for this weekend's race at Kansas Speedway featuring The University of Kansas. All decked out in crimson and blue, the No. 66 Dodge features KU's mascot, the Jayhawk. University and team officials unveiled the special paint scheme three weeks ago on campus.
No Stranger To Kansas... While Casey Mears was born and raised in Bakersfield, Calif., his dad (Roger) and uncle Rick were born in Wichita, Kan. The younger Mears continues to follow in the footsteps of his dad and uncle. Roger Mears raced Indy Cars, but off-road racing was really his forte while Casey's uncle Rick spent much of his career competing in Indy Cars and is a four-time Indianapolis 500 champion.
Ready For Kansas Speedway... In preparation for the Mr. Goodcents 300, the Phillips 66 team spent two days testing at Kansas Speedway in September allowing Mears to familiarize himself with the track.
Casey Mears' Thoughts On The Special KU Paint Scheme... "The paint scheme looks great and I'm excited about the race. I think having the Jayhawk on the car is going to create a lot of interest on behalf of the fans at the race and from everyone at KU. Hopefully we can have a good run and give the KU faithful something to cheer about."
Casey Mears' Thoughts On Racing At Kansas Speedway... "We had a successful two-day test at Kansas. We were very competitive with the other teams that were testing with us. The surface is extremely smooth, but because the surface is so new, it's basically a one-groove track right now. The second groove will get better with time, but right now if you miss getting to the bottom of the track entering the corners, you have to back off the gas and gather the car up."
