Kasey Kahne won the Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway after making a gutsy call to come in and top off gas with 52 laps to the finish. With 22 laps remaining several of the leaders came in for gas under the green flag, when those stops cycled through, Kahne was the leader.

"That was pretty gutsy. I saved a lot there. It worked out for us, I'm pretty happy," Kahne said. "I can't say enough about this team. They made all the right calls. It feels good to be back in Victory Lane."

Championship leader Kevin Harvick struggled through the race but wound up with a second place result, "Whatever it takes. I just stole about 10 spots there at the end. We didn't look so good but it ended up being a good night for us."

Mark Martin was third. The No. 6 Ford led a race high 137 laps but a late race pit stop for gas ended his tenure at the front of the field.

"We had the car to beat. It just didn't turn out," Martin said.

Paul Menard, also using fuel strategy was leading with nine to go, but he started to fall back as his fuel celled begged to be refilled. As he slowed, Kahne managed to get around him for the final time. Menard ran out of gas on the last lap and crossed the finish line fourth.

Ashton Lewis, Jr. closed out the top five.

Harvick continues to lead championship point standings, in front of Carl Edwards by 567 points.
