HOMECOMING -- Jeff Purvis, driver of the # 18 MBNA Pontiac will be among the hometown favorites this weekend. Purvis, a resident of Clarksville, TN expects to have many friends and family members in attendance on Saturday. Purvis hopes his past success at the old Nashville Speedway carries over to the new and larger Nashville Superspeedway.
ANOTHER GUITAR - Mike McLaughlin will be looking to add a second guitar to his collection of winner's trophies this weekend. McLaughlin won the 1998 race at the old Nashville Speedway and was presented with a guitar as the winner's trophy.
SHOULD BE SLICK - Those were the words of Mike McLaughlin, driver of the # 20 Unsponsored Joe Gibbs Racing Pontiac. When asked about the new facility, McLaughlin replied, "I have no clue what to expect, but looking back at how Dover reacted when they laid the concrete down it was a slick race track. Until a solid layer of rubber was placed on the track at Dover, it was real slick. Hopefully with all the laps of practice we are going to get, the track will be in good shape by Saturday."
SPONSOR HUNTING - The Joe Gibbs Racing Team continues its search for a sponsor for the team of Mike McLaughlin. McLaughlin, currently in sixth place in the points race, has been among the lead pack in every race this year. The team is looking for both a long-term sponsor as well as corporations that are interested in "testing the waters" of Busch Series racing. IMPROVEMENT FROM 2000 - Both McLaughlin and Purvis are off too much improved starts from last season. Entering the Nashville race last year, Mike McLaughlin was in 33rd place and Jeff Purvis in 24th place in the season long points race. Currently McLaughlin and Purvis are in sixth and seventh position respectively.
TESTING TALLADEGA --- Mike McLaughlin and his # 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Team spent Monday and Tuesday testing at The Talladega Supespeedway in preparation for next Saturday's race.
