Krogh's condition upgraded By Marty Smith
MILWAUKEE, Wis., (July 12, 1999) Jeff Krogh, the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division driver who was injured in a practice crash at The Milwaukee Mile on July 3, has been upgraded from critical to satisfactory condition by doctors at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital. Krogh, 27, is still semi-conscious and has responded to verbal and physical stimuli, and continues to rest in a personal room. He was removed from intensive care this past Friday.
Krogh suffered closed cranial trauma after his car impacted the turn one wall at The Milwaukee Mile, and has undergone several procedures to aid his recovery since that time.
The following is a letter of appreciation written by the Krogh family and received at NASCAR Monday afternoon:
"As our family is faced with this difficult and challenging time, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of those who have shown so much concern and support for Jeff. The outpouring of get-well wishes, flowers, cards, and prayers have been welcomed and greatly appreciated. Jeff continues to improve with each day, but faces a long road ahead of him. Continued prayers and support are welcomed throughout Jeff's recovery.
"We would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to some who have gone beyond the call of duty to help our family during this time;
"Thank You Mr. Bill Amick for your generosity in bringing Jeff's family together on a moments notice. Thank you also to the several other car owners that offered their private planes as well.
"We also want to thank NASCAR and the NASCAR family for your continued support and concern. To all the teams and drivers who have expressed their thoughts to Jeff, we thank you. It's times like these when you realize how close the NASCAR family really is.
"Thanks to all of the fans who have sent their well wishes and prayers, they are working and helping our family get through each day. Special thanks to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital and its staff. We can not begin to express how wonderful the staff members have been to Jeff and the entire family. We could not have made it this far without your support and care.
"Thanks again to everyone for your support and prayers.
"The Krogh Family, all our love."
