Nashville Superspeedway -- April 14, 2001
Jeff Green On Nashville: Jeff Green, 2000 NASCAR Busch Series Champion and driver of the No. 10 Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus, has mixed feelings about the new Nashville Superspeedway.
"I am so excited about racing at the new Nashville Superspeedway because I love racing at new facilities, but I will miss the old speedway at the fairgrounds," said Green. "I know without the exposure I received at Nashville Speedway USA, I probably wouldn't be where I am today in my racing career. I have always considered Nashville my hometown track because it is located about 2 hours from my hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky. All my friends and family always come to watch me race, so I guess I'll have to adopt the new speedway as my hometown track now. I figure the best way to adopt it would be to bring home the inaugural trophy."
Equipment: Green and his Nesquik Racing team are bringing a brand new car to the brand new Nashville Superspeedway. Although the car never competed in a race, the team has tested it at Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this year.
How to Tame a New Track: Crew chief, Harold Holly, has the task of putting together a fast race car with no previous notes or any test data for the upcoming race at Nashville Superspeedway. The track had to cancel all test sessions leading up to the race, which provides a unique challenge for the crew chief.
"In trying to get a setup for a new track, first, I gather all the track information; the track surface, banking in the straightaways and the corners, plus how sharp the turns are in the corners," said Holly. "Once I look at the data, I look at relative setups from other tracks. Basically, the track specs will determine the gear ratio and springs you run. From what I can tell, the new Nashville track will be a cross somewhere between Gateway, Las Vegas and Kentucky."
Jeff Green Appearances: Green will be signing autographs from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 12th for the fourth Annual Race for Life Festival. The event will be held in downtown Lebanon, Tenn. at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center. The purpose of the Race for Life event is to help educate race fans about organ and tissue donation and to provide car seats for newborns at Metro General Hospital.
Stats at Inaugural Events / New Tracks: When Green has been challenged with an inaugural event at an existing track or new track, he usually performs well. Out of eight such events, Green has three poles and two wins at new events. <pre> Track Year Series Start Finish LC/TL Status Phoenix 1999 NBS 10 11 200/200 Running Memphis 1999 NBS 1 1 250/250 Running California 1997 NWC 7 7 300/300 Running Texas 1997 NBS 1 15 200/200 Running Las Vegas 1997 NBS 1 1 200/200 Running Homestead 1995 NBS 13 35 80/200 Accident Michigan 1992 NBS 31 21 97/100 Running Atlanta 1992 NBS 43 24 179/197 Running
