JIMMY SPENCER FILES FIRST ENTRY
FOR HOMESTEAD JIFFY LUBE MIAMI 300
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Oct. 29, 1998) - NASCAR Winston Cup regular Jimmy Spencer filed the first entry for the Nov. 13-15 Jiffy Lube Miami 300 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, the final race of the season for NASCAR's Busch Series.
Spencer will drive the No. 12 Zippo Manufacturing Chevrolet in the 300-mile race on the 1.5-mile oval. This will be his third race at the beautiful state-of-the-art facility. The Berwick, Pa., native finished sixth in the 1996 Jiffy Lube Miami 300 after qualifying 17th. He improved to a fifth place finish in last year's race, qualifying seventh.
'I'm really excited about returning to Miami," said Spencer. "It's a real nice race track, and they've made improvements to it both times we've been down there. It's real smooth, and pit road is real nice. The fans treat us great when we're down there."
Spencer will be changing his strategy when he returns to Homestead.
"We're going to bring a different type of car for this year's race," Spencer explained. "We're bringing the car that won at Las Vegas earlier this year, and we're hoping for a similar result at Miami."
For Spencer, the final event of NASCAR's 50th anniversary season will be a "working vacation."
"I'm looking forward to playing some golf and eating at Don Shula's Steak House," he said. "I like the Miami area, and I'm looking forward to racing there next year with the Winston Cup car."
Spencer drives the No. 23 No Bull Ford Taurus in his 10th season of Winston Cup competition. A veteran short track racer from the Northeast, he won two championships in NASCAR's Featherlite Modified Tour.
A limited number of grandstand seats are still available for the race weekend, which includes the NASCAR Slim Jim All-Pro Series and Goody's Dash Series. Advance ticket buyers are also eligible to reserve tickets for Homestead's inaugural Winston Cup race, the 1999 Jiffy Lube Miami 400.
