Green replaces Cope in No. 92 ride

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 17, 1998) Jeff Green, who has one career victory in the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division, has been chosen to replace Derrike Cope in the No. 92 Kraft Foods Inc. Chevrolet for the seven races remaining in the team's 1998 schedule.

According to Kraft public relations representative Mike Thompson, Cope has been advised by doctors to refrain from any extraneous racing activity outside of his NASCAR Winston Cup ride with Bahari' Racing. Cope is reportedly still recovering from wrist injuries suffered in accidents earlier this year at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.

Cope will remain in the No. 30 Gumout Pontiac in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. He and the team will test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway beginning on Sunday in preparation for the Aug. 1 Brickyard 400.

Green, the regular driver of the No. 46 First Union Chevrolet in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, will compete in the seven remaining races on the No. 92 Kraft Chevrolet's NASCAR Busch Series schedule. He's scheduled to drive at Bristol (Aug. 21), Darlington (Sept. 5), Richmond (Sept. 11), Charlotte (Oct. 3), Rockingham (Oct. 31), Atlanta (Nov. 7) and Homestead (Nov. 15).

During his NASCAR Busch Series career, Green has recorded 38 top-10 and 19 top-five finishes in only 114 starts. His lone victory came at Las Vegas in early 1997.

The Martin Motorsports team is excited about its new addition.

"We are happy that Jeff is able to drive the Kraft Chevrolet for the remainder of our schedule," said team co-owner and crew chief Tim Weiss. "We have always welcomed his input and he has visited the shop frequently throughout the season with suggestions and advice on how to improve our performance."

Green filled in for an injured Cope earlier this season at Martinsville in the No. 30 Gumout Pontiac in the NASCAR Winston Cup Goody's 500, where he finished 17th. Green's older brother David filled in for Cope in the Kraft Chevrolet earlier this season as well.
