* One of Tim Fedewa's best performances in 1999 occurred at California Speedway where he finished sixth despite getting caught up in an accident during the early part of the race.

"California is a nice place to race," he said. "They have a beautiful facility there, and I always enjoy when the series travels out west.

"We had a good run there last, and we still managed to finish sixth after getting torn up pretty bad in a wreck," he said. "We're taking a brand new Monte Carlo, and we have a fresh engine. If we can get everything in line and then follow through at the track, I'm confident that we can have a strong run this weekend."

* For the second straight year, Tim Fedewa will join other NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series drivers on his Harley Davidson and take part in Kyle Petty's Charity Ride Across America. The ride benefits children's hospitals and the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary.

Fedewa will drive the route from California to Tulsa, Okla. Fedewa will catch a flight from Tulsa to Richmond, Va., for the May 5th Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway. After the Winston Cup race on Saturday, Fedewa will rejoin the ride. He will complete the ride Sunday afternoon in Trinity, N.C., at the Petty family farm.

* Fuel mileage and keeping the car free off the corners are the two keys to taking the Stanley car to victory lane at California Speedway according to crew chief Billy Nacewicz.

"We'll really have to pay attention to the fuel mileage there because several races have been won or lost on that fact," he said. "In my past experience, the drivers complain that their cars tend to be tight here. We'll have to find just the right adjustment to keep the Stanley car free."

* Mike Hembree of the Greenville News was the winner of last time's "Who Wants To Be A Tool Winner?" contest. Be sure to enter this week for a chance to win a new Stanley tool.
