SHERMAN READY TO GET BACK ON TRACK IN AMERIQUEST 300
FONTANA, Calif. (Aug. 30, 2005) -- After a rough weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, NASCAR Busch Series rookie Brent Sherman is ready to get the No. 10 Consort for Men Ford back on track in Saturday's Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway.
California Speedway is a track where ppc Racing has excelled in the past. In five races at the two-mile oval, the No. 10 team, with drivers Jeff Green, Scott Riggs and Michel Jourdain Jr., has picked up one win, one pole, three top-fives, three top-10s and has led 104 laps.
"Last weekend didn't go so well for us, but we're not going to dwell on it," Sherman said. "We're looking ahead to Saturday's race in Fontana and the rest of the season. We need to have a decent run this weekend. Our priority is to get back in the top 30 in owner points."
In the NASCAR Busch Series, the top 30 teams in owner points are guaranteed a starting position in each race. The ppc Racing No. 10 team currently sits 31st in owner points, just 75 points out of the coveted top 30.
In February's Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway, Sherman started 33rd and finished 32nd while driving for Akins Motorsports.
"I didn't have a very good run at the track in February," Sherman said. "This time around I'm with a different team and I know we'll have a better run."
Heading into Saturday's Ameriquest 300, the ppc Racing made a key personnel change. Tim Shutt has taken over crew chief duties for the No. 10 Consort team. Shutt worked with Sherman in his first race with ppc Racing at Chicagoland Speedway in July.
"I'm looking forward to this weekend's race and working with Brent again," Shutt said. "It's another high-speed track where aero package and horsepower play large roles. Brent has more confidence at this type of track, so hopefully we'll be able to pick up where we left off at Chicagoland back in July.
"Fontana has been a good track for me in the past. It can sometimes come down to fuel mileage and it's easy to go a lap down, but with our experience and a little luck we should have a good weekend."
In addition to Saturday's race, Sherman and the No. 10 Consort for Men Ford will be making several appearances at Longs Drugs Stores in the Fontana, Calif., area.
"It's good to have Consort back on the car this weekend for the Ameriquest 300," Sherman said. "I will be making several appearances in the area for them leading up to the race on Saturday, and it'll be nice to spend some time in sunny California."
Qualifying for the Ameriquest 300 is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. PDT on Saturday (3:05 p.m. EDT) and will be broadcast live by SPEED Channel. Race time is set for 5:35 p.m. PDT (8:35 p.m. EDT) and the event will be televised live by NBC and broadcast by MRN Radio.
