Ashton Lewis and The Civil Air Patrol Racing Team for the April 27 Auto Club 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at California Speedway. Lewis started 21st and finished 22nd in last year's race, completing 149 of the event's 150 laps.

ASHTON LEWIS, NO. 46 CIVIL AIR PATROL CHEVROLET:

"We struggled (at California) there last year. We didn't qualify well because we had a problem in practice and didn't get to make a qualifying run. We're looking forward to going back there. We didn't start the race off that well, but we fine tuned it and got to where we could run with the top-10 cars. It's kind of like a Michigan. We should run well there. We're taking the car we ran there last year and also at the first Charlotte race so it's a good race car."

IS THERE A LOT OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICHIGAN AND CALIFORNIA?

"I think so. It (California) seems to be a little bit smoother than what Michigan is. Driving technique wise, very similar but it's definitely a different track."

WHAT DOES YOUR CAR NEED TO DO AT CALIFORNIA?

"It's so big and sweeping, it's going to be downforce balance and drag balance. How much downforce do you put in the car to gain drag and how much drag do you give up to run faster on the straightaways so you have to find the right balance there. That car that we are taking there should be a pretty good balance for that place.

HOW IMPORTANT WILL IT BE FOR YOU GUYS TO HAVE A SOLID TOP-FIVE OR TOP-10 RUN IN THE RACE?

"We definitely need it. We're trying to get a good run out of (Talladega) and just finish this race and then get back on track. We're still early on in this 12-race run so if we can get the momentum going we need to do it there."

DO YOU THINK INTERMEDIATE TRACKS LIKE CALIFORNIA PLAY INTO THE TEAM'S STRENGTHS?

"Anywhere other than superspeedways, I think we have a shot at going there and running in the top-five everywhere we go. I don't see any tracks that should give us a problem other than Gateway and that's just because the team nor I have been there for a while. That's the only track I see that could possibly give us a problem."
