SCOTT RIGGS-10-Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus (Qualified 5th)
"I really don't know why it slowed down so much. I guess the track just got hotter because the sun's out. We practiced this morning when it was pretty early and pretty cool, so hopefully the track has just slowed down. This is two weeks in a row of being the first one out, so we sorta have to sit back and wait."
HOW BIG OF A DISADVANTAGE IS DRAWING FIRST FOR QUALIFYING? "I would have rather seen a few cars go out to see what the tendency was, or maybe have my teammate go out and see what the tendency was and what he had to say to get some feedback before we ran because we could use air pressure adjustments to try to help it. It's a little bit of a disadvantage, but hopefully we can be in the top five, hopefully, and have a good starting spot."
DID THE TRACK CHANGE BEFORE QUALIFYING WITH THE TWO HOURS OF WINSTON CUP PRACTICE? "I think it changed a little bit, but that's because the sun was out. They did put some more rubber down, and I could feel that, but this concrete here stays pretty consistent."
KASEY KAHNE-98-Channellock Ford Taurus (Qualified 13th)
"I like the track a lot, and the Channellock car was good. I got a little tight coming to the white flag, so that kinda hurt my second lap. I think we probably could have gotten off of turn 4 better, if we had some momentum on my second lap. That's our best lap that we've run today."
DID YOUR EXPERIENCE AT BRISTOL HELP YOU GET ACCLIMATED TO THIS TRACK QUICKER? "So far we're a lot better here than we were at Bristol, so I like this place a lot better right now. It's just getting feeling for the concrete surface. We've got more laps under our belt on the concrete surface now, and I think we have a better balanced car right now because of that."
MARK GREEN-38-Great Clips Ford Taurus (Qualified 21st)
"Some of the guys are slowing way down, but we ended up close to where we were in practice, and I don't know why people are slowing down. I think the track has stayed pretty consistent because we were just a little bit free in practice, so we put some more right-front spring in it to help it, but we went with way too much, so I thought it was little bit tight. The track is the same so maybe people aren't guessing right on setups."
YOUR STATUS AS THE DRIVER SEEMS TO CHANGE WEEKLY ON THIS TEAM. "Unfortunately for Christian, he's got some problems there medically that he needs to work on, and fortunately for me, I'm kinda in the right place at time. We've got a good race team and good race cars, we just need to get Lady Luck to help us a little bit. It's no fault of anyone, we've just been caught up in some wrecks and hopefully that will change."
HOW WILL THIS CHANGE WITH YOU DRIVING FULL-TIME HELP THE NO. 38 TEAM IN THE LONG RUN? "With Christian not having much experience, you're kinda in the survival mode to a point. Now, we can kinda get after it and try to get speed out of the car and try to do some trick stuff to see if it helps or not. It will help the team in the long run and it should help Christian when he gets back. Everything will be there, he will just need to steer."
GREG BIFFLE-60-Grainger Ford Taurus (Qualified 3rd)
"I was just trying for too much. I was just a little bit tight and kinda overdrove it in to make up for it and it really didn't. That's a good lap for us and it will get us in the top five."
YOU BACKED OUT OF THE TOHOLU ON THE SECOND LAP. "I got really loose in turn 3 and was probably going to wreck the car if I tried to keep pedaling it. I was going to be better, but not enough to beat the leader, so I decided to save the car for the race." HOW ARE THE TRACK CONDITIONS? "It's a little more greasy, and now, it's slick all together. The trucks will put some more rubber down on it tonight and with our Happy Hour and Cup Happy Hour, the track will probably continue to tighten up."
BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 2nd)
"We were going for the pole, but we were too loose to get it here today. I'm disappointed now because I thought we could get the pole, but I guess you can't be too mad when you qualify second. That tells you what we expect out of this team."
JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Qualified 11th)
"We've struggled the last couple times here, but I always enjoy these concrete race tracks. The car has been better, but it's still not like we need it. It looks like that will be a decent starting spot, but not a great one, so we'll see what happens."
HOW MUCH WILL THE TRACK CONDITIONS CHANGE BETWEEN NOW AND THE RACE WITH ALL OF THE TRACK ACTIVITY? "Typically, this race track always tightens up and that seems to be what it is doing now. We're just going to have to build some adjustability in the car and make sure we can adjust it. The concrete tracks build rubber with every lap that is run on them, so it's going to be who can adjust their car and read it right. Hopefully we can do that, and stay out of the way of an early trouble."
