Not Scared of Monsters:

David Green will take his No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet to the “Monster Mile” at Dover Downs in Dover, DE for the MBNA.com 200. Dover is one of two (Bristol) concrete tracks on the NASCAR Busch Series. And though Dover’s concrete surface is more forgiving, the track is susceptible to mass carnage and hair-raising racing.

“Concrete is less sensitive to the heat and temperature change than what you see at Charlotte or Louden,” explained Green. “For example, if you have an early draw for qualifying at Dover, it won’t negatively effect you the way it does on an asphalt track. It also makes for better racing. The track stays constant temperature wise, so it is easier to find the right setup on the car since you don’t have to worry about playing meteorologist.

“But what you do have to worry about is the attrition that is at Dover every year. This track isn’t called the “Monster Mile” for nothing. The straights are banked almost the same as most tracks’ corners that we run on. If something happens, it gobbles you up. It is strictly due to the high banking throughout the whole track. But, I don’t really want to think about wrecks.”

David Green on Kyle Petty Returning in the 45 Car:

The tragedy stricken No. 45 NASCAR Busch Series team will return to the track at Dover this weekend. Adam’s father and best friend, Kyle Petty will race his Winston Cup car and Adam’s Busch Series car for the first time since his son’s death.

“I couldn’t pretend to put myself in the situation that Kyle is in right now,” said Green. “It really takes a strong man to do that. I don’t know if I could ever be that strong. Adam and Kyle had the closest father-son relationship that I have ever seen, and I can’t imagine what it would be like.

“This is going to be a race of mixed emotions for all of us- not only the Busch Series drivers, but for the NASCAR community as a whole. It is going to be good to see Kyle back racing again. On the flip side, I just saw a 45 souvenir trailer going down the road and though it’s a positive to have the 45 car there, I think what is more evident to us is that Adam is not.

“Adam would have wanted his team to continue, though. He loved this sport and he would want everyone to continue racing- including his father. For that reason, I don’t think there is a better choice than Kyle to drive that car.”
