Stacy Compton Quotes
On Darlington: "Darlington is all about finding a rhythm that allows you to save the car. You want to give up a little bit of speed early in a tire run so you can keep the car under you in the second half of the tire run. The race will be won by the car that's quickest after the tires are worn out."
On the season: "I think our car was good enough to win the race at Las Vegas two weeks ago. We were the fastest car on the track when two other cars crashed ahead of me and damaged the right-front fender. Even with damage, we stayed on the lead lap and were competitive. I think (crew chief) Jeff Chandler has learned a lot about our new Fords and it's starting to show. Darlington will be a good test for us because everything has to be just right to win there -- the car, the driver and, most important, the luck."
Crew Chief Jeff Chandler Quote
On Darlington: "It's no secret I'm not a patient person. I want success, and I want it right now. We've worked hard on our Fords and we've made a lot of progress. I think we're at a point where we can turn Stacy loose to see what this car can really do. He has a good track record at Darlington because he's such a patient, methodical driver. Darlington is a racetrack that pushes every team to the brink. The pavement chews up tires, and it's difficult to keep the car balanced, especially at the exits of the second and fourth turns. If we can get Stacy off those corners in good shape, we should have a good afternoon."
