NEWS & NOTES

* Featherlite Sponsors 'Most Improved' Special Award ... Featherlite is the "Official Trailer and Coach of NASCAR," and as part of the relationship, the Most Improved Driver Special Award has been created for four NASCAR series beginning in 2004. Featherlite will present 149 such awards in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, in addition to other touring divisions. Featherlite will also present four year-end awards this year. Featherlite's involvement in NASCAR dates back 12 years. The company is an innovative leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing high-quality aluminum specialty trailers and luxury motorcoaches.

WHAT THEY'RE WRITING

* "As a youngster, Blake Bainbridge swept the floors in Davey Allison's old race shop in Hueytown [Ala.]. As a teenager, he was Donnie Allison's choice as the next young Alabama racer to groom for stardom. Now, at 24, Bainbridge is on the fast track, not as a driver, but as a crew chief ... Bainbridge is crew chief for the NASCAR Busch Series team started by Rusty Wallace." -- Neil Sims, The Birmingham News.

* "The way Bobby Hamilton Jr. finished 2003, many expected him to keep on rolling into this year's [NASCAR] Busch Series season. He won two of the last five races last year and finished third in the other three. Hamilton Jr. ended up 49 points behind champion Brian Vickers, and considering he was over 200 points out of the lead during part of the season, you can see why much was expected out of him in 2004." -- Lee Montgomery, nascar.com.
