TEAM MARINES RACING NOTES & QUOTES:
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. has had two top-ten and one top-five finishes in just five starts at Darlington Raceway. While many drivers dread the egg shaped oval, Hamilton, Jr. looks forward to the challenge of taming the "track too tough to tame."
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. on Darlington:
"Darlington is a tough race track but I really enjoy racing there. It is a demanding track, physically and mentally. It's truly a driver's race track. You race the track more than you race your fellow competitors and it forces you to concentrate hard on every single lap. If you don't hit your marks perfectly you'll find yourself in the wall. It's a lot more focused on the driver's ability as opposed to your aero package or horsepower. If you end up with a top-five or even top-ten finish at the end of the day you will go home knowing that you worked hard for it."
Crew chief, Fred Wanke on Darlington:
Crew chief, Fred Wanke, gets a grin on his face when he talks about Darlington. "Darlington is just a tough, old track," he says. "It's grueling on both the car and the driver. The track is oddly shaped, like an egg, and turns three and four are much tighter with less banking than one and two. If you're tight in three and four, you're loose in one and two, and vice versa. You have to decide where you want to make a sacrifice. Tire strategy is very important at Darlington. Its coarse asphalt surface will eat up a pair of tires before you know it so that last stop you make for tires is really important. It can often determine who is standing in victory lane at the end of the day."
Hamilton, Jr., who currently sits ninth in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings, will drive chassis No. 16 this weekend at Darlington Raceway. This is the same chassis the No. 25 Team Marines drove to fifth place finish at Pikes Peak International Raceway in July.
