Hermie Sadler, FanZCar Ready To Conquer Darlington
DARLINGTON, SC - - After taking another rare weekend off, the NASCAR Busch Series will surge back into action by heading to Darlington Raceway this weekend, the track nicknamed "To Tough To Tame."
For the second time this season, The FanZCar will serve as the primary sponsor of SCORE Motorsports No. 02 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The FanZCar made their debut on the Busch tour in the second event of the season at North Carolina Speedway. After Sadler drove his way into the top-12, the team was swept into an accident closing in on the finish.
In 16 prior starts at the South Carolina based track, Sadler has collected three top ten finishes with a best finish of seventh which occurred twice in 1997 in the fall event, and 1998 in the spring event. The 1993 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the year has also started on the outside pole for the event in 1994 (finished tenth).
SCORE Motorsports is heading into the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 with their heads held high after two rough events have left the team down, but not out. An accident in Rockingham destroyed a fast rocket ship, and a burnt piston cost the team of crashing in the green at Las Vegas.
"We are looking at Darlington being the first race of the season. We have had three sub-par finishes already, and we cannot give up any more points. We have been running pretty well, but we have to put the finishes together," said the driver of car 02.
Sadler, who announced earlier this week he would make his first NEXTEL start at Bristol added "I love Darlington. The history of the track means a lot to me. I really like places like Darlington and Rockingham, where the drivers play a big role, especially on long runs."
The experience that Sadler has at the track could be thrown out the window this weekend, as Darlington Raceway have installed the safe wall barriers. The safe wall barrier have been installed to some NASCAR tracks as part of NASCAR's safety technology, in an effort to reduce the impact that a driver may have when they impact the wall.
"I think the creation of soft walls is terrific, and I think they work for 99% percent of the tracks we race at, but I am not sure about Darlington. To take over two feet of racing groove away will make things very interesting. We will just have to see where they put everything and adjust from there," Sadler explained.
Zapf Creation, and Jenkins & Jenkins Law Firm, will join The FanZCar machine as associate sponsors for the fourth Busch event of the season.
Heading into Darlington, Sadler has 229 NASCAR Busch Series starts to his record, 2 wins, 18 top-fives, 44 top-tens, three poles, and has achieved more than two million dollars in career earnings.
The Diamond Hill Plywood 200 is the fourth of 34 events on the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series schedule. Practice and qualifying are on the agenda this Friday, March 15th, with the race set to take the green flag Saturday, March 20th. FX will air the event live beginning at 12:30 PM EST, with MRN handling the airwaves beginning also at 12:30 PM EST.
