JARRETT TO RACE CENTENNIAL TOYOTA IN NASCAR BUSCH SERIES AT BRISTOL
CORNELIUS, N.C., Aug. 15, 2007 -- UPS today announced plans to sponsor Dale Jarrett in the Food City 250 NASCAR Busch Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Aug. 24, 2007, as part of the UPS Centennial Celebration. Randy Goss will serve as crew chief for Jarrett and the #44 UPS Centennial Toyota Busch team.
In addition to the Busch Series race, Jarrett will race the #44 UPS Centennial Toyota Camry in the Sharpie 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event the next day.
UPS announced its Centennial Celebration program in April when the paint scheme celebrating the company's 100th anniversary was unveiled at UPS's WorldportSM hub in Louisville, Ky.
"The 100th anniversary is a special occasion for UPS employees across the globe," said Ron Rogowski, UPS's director of sponsorship. "UPS has obviously come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1907 in Seattle. The growth and prosperity of UPS is a tribute to our employees, past and present, and we want to bring attention to the 100 years of dedication, fortitude and diligence exhibited by employees worldwide by making the weekend at Bristol a great event for UPS."
To commemorate the company's Centennial anniversary, UPS created an internal contest giving UPS employees the opportunity to create a special paint scheme for the #44 UPS Centennial Toyota Camry. Joe Hill, a field support technician at UPS Worldport in Louisville, was selected as the winner of the paint scheme contest and will watch the race at Bristol. Hill was one of the 10 finalists selected from the 150 entries submitted for the contest. UPS employees voted on www.upsers.com and Hill's winning paint scheme received more than 900 of the 4,300 votes cast.
"This is an important milestone for UPS and the more than 427,000 UPS employees worldwide," said Dale Jarrett, driver of the #44 UPS Toyota. "It has been very rewarding for me to be able to represent UPS both on and off the race track. It's quite an honor for me and everyone at Michael Waltrip Racing to be a part of the 100th anniversary celebration."
