CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 9, 2007) -- SKI Motorsports announced today that Stanton Barrett will pilot the No. 30 SKI Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in a limited campaign in the NASCAR Busch Series for 2007. The team will mark its competition debut this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.
A highly respected Hollywood stuntman known for accomplishing amazing feats, Barrett is a talented NASCAR driver.
After a successful career in go-karts with an amazing 21 wins in 28 starts, Barrett made his NASCAR Busch Series debut in 1992 in the famous Oxford 250, at the time America's richest short track race. He garnered attention by earning the outside pole in his very first NASCAR Busch Series race. He has run a partial schedule in the NASCAR Busch Series ever since capturing a total of one top-5 and seven top-10 finishes. In addition, Barrett has competed in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series on a limited basis since 1999.
"I am excited to have this opportunity with SKI Motorsports and its family of sponsors," said Barrett. "All of the components are in place to lead us to a very strong showing in the Busch Series this season."
"As our program continues to grow and evolve this year and next, we are happy to join our network and resources with those of Stanton Barrett Motorsports," commented Chris Lencheski, president of SKI Motorsports and its parent SKI & Company agency. "Stanton's personal passions fit so nicely into the fabric of both Smith & Wesson and NOS Energy Drink that the harmony between NASCAR competition and sponsorship messaging is uniquely achievable at SKI Motorsports."
Smith & Wesson, renowned provider of products and services for safety, security, protection and sport for 155 years, will serve as primary sponsor on the No. 30 SKI Motorsports Chevrolet for four race events in the 2007 season. Scheduled races include Chicagoland Speedway, the Memorial Day weekend race at California Speedway, as well as the final races of the season at Lowe's Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
"Smith & Wesson is ready to get our third season of Busch Series racing started in Chicago," said Tom Taylor, Vice President of Marketing. "Throughout the year, we are excited to feature several of our retail partners as part of our race team beginning with Gander Mountain this weekend. We believe there is tremendous synergy for Smith & Wesson in combining the interests of race fans and outdoor sports enthusiasts."
In addition, associate sponsor NOS Energy Drink will serve as primary sponsor for Barrett and the No. 30 SKI Motorsports team at Dover International Speedway in September.
"We are thrilled to have Stanton as part of the NOS Energy Drink team," said Michael Fine, Energy Drink Brand Director for Fuze Beverage, LLC. "Stanton's hard charging attitude and lifestyle makes him the perfect fit for the NOS Energy Drink brand."
SKI Motorsports is currently solidifying plans for an expanded NASCAR racing campaign in 2008. Further announcements from the organization are expected in the coming weeks.
