Shane Huffman, Driver, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

"I'm ready to get back behind the wheel and try my hand at another new track. I grew up not too far from the track and it'll be nice to finally get a chance to race at Charlotte.

"I'm also excited about the special paint scheme we're running in honor of the Nayv's birthday. I've spent a lot of time lately getting to visit with sailors and I'm just humbled by all that they do for our country. It's an honor to drive this car each week representing the more than 400,000 men and women who serve our country in the U.S. Navy."

Wes Ward, Crew Chief, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

"I personally preferred the old track surface at Charlotte. It had some character with all the bumps and stuff and made it more of a driver's track. The smoother surface has made it really fast and brought the competition a bit closer.

"Charlotte should be a good test for Shane. He adapted to Kansas pretty quickly, and I think he'll do just as well at learning the track here.

"I'm looking forward to the race. It'll be nice to race at home in front of friends and family and go home and sleep in our own beds."

Navy Notables

The U.S. Navy traces its origin back to the Continental Navy, which the Continental Congress established on Oct. 13, 1775. On this date the authorization was given to procure, out fit, man and dispatch two armed vessels to search for munitions ships that were supplying the British Army in America.

In honor of the Navy's 231st birthday this Friday, the No. 88 Chevrolet will feature two vessels, the USS Constitution and the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). The USS Constitution, nicknamed "Old Ironsides," was built in Boston from 1794-1797 and is known for is triumph in battle during the War of 1812. The vessel will celebrate its 209th birthday the following weekend.

The USS Harry S. Truman is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier that was built in Newport News, Va., and is homeported at Norfolk, Va. It's 1,092 feet in length and can reach speeds of 30-plus knots.
