Bowyer Prepared to Turn His Lowe's Luck Around
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 10, 2006) -- ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer heads to Lowe's Motor Speedway fresh from a fifth-place finish at Kansas Speedway and his first 2006 win at Dover International Speedway three weeks ago. He and the entire ACDelco team are looking to carry this momentum to their most difficult racetrack, the 1.5-mile oval in Concord, N.C.
Bowyer has experienced his share of challenges at Lowe's Motor Speedway. In his last four appearances at the track, the Emporia, Kan., native has finished 10th, 32nd, 33rd, and 36th, respectively. This Friday night in the Dollar General 300, Bowyer hopes to turn his Lowe's luck around and keep his string of strong performances alive.
At their last visit to Lowe's Motor Speedway in May, the Real Car Guys started the race in the 17th spot, but found themselves making repairs to their racecar after Bowyer spun in Turn 4 on Lap 144. Bowyer rejoined the field on Lap 176, 32 laps down, and eventually guided his Chevy home in 36th.
"We had a decent car," Bowyer said. "We've always had a decent car when we go to Lowe's. We run up front, but I always seem to find a way to spin out and hit the wall with it. I always run good there, but I just can't finish. I finish with the car about four feet shorter than it was when I started. It's home for us, and it's really important to run good there. Hopefully, we can get things turned around."
Although they've struggled at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the past, Bowyer and the ACDelco Real Car Guys are looking to carry their recent success to the 1.5-mile racetrack on Friday night. "It's the one racetrack where I do kind of have a jinx," explained Bowyer. "A lot of stuff is mental, and we just have to go there knowing that we've got a good hot rod and try to get that finish out of it."
Bowyer about Lowe's Motor Speedway:
About his string of bad luck at Lowe's:
"I've been the victim of getting passed on the outside and getting the air pulled off my spoiler. A lot of that stuff can be controlled, but some of it can't. You get put in that situation and abort the mission instead of going for it, and you're usually alright. That usually pays off, but a couple of our wrecks were just freak deals that couldn't be prevented."
