SHANE HMIEL TAKES ON THE "WORLD'S FASTEST HALF-MILE" THIS WEEKEND
MOORESVILLE, NC (March 29, 2005) -- Shane Hmiel is hoping to carry over momentum from last weeks 3rd place Busch series finish at Nashville, to this weekend's events at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hmiel will be running the Busch series race on Saturday, and then will be attempting to qualify for the Nextel Cup race that will take place this Sunday.
"Bristol Motor Speedway is my favorite track on the schedule," Hmiel explained. "I always look forward to going to Bristol because it is the track that I most want to win at. I grew up short track racing, so I think that's why Bristol is so special to me. I would love to get my first Busch series win this weekend at Bristol. We have been close to winning a few times this season, and it would be unbelievable if we could manage to put the WINFUEL Chevrolet into victory lane there."
Shane Hmiel and the WINFUEL team hope to make it further in their second Nextel Cup race of the season than they did in their first at Atlanta. The #08 WINFUEL Chevrolet was caught up in an unfortunate lap 1 incident earlier this month at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
"My WINFUEL team has worked so hard to build this Cup program from the ground up," Hmiel said. "Frank Kerr, my crew chief, and Todd Braun have put together a group of hard working guys that are putting in long hours to build me fast race cars. Unfortunately, we got involved in the lap 1 incident at Atlanta and we didn't get to show everyone just how fast that car really was."
The WINFUEL team tested Bristol Motor Speedway on March 24 in preparation for this weekend's Food City 500. "We tested the short-track car that we're going to run at Bristol and we put down some pretty fast times," Shane said. "It took me a little while to get used to driving the Cup car at Bristol, as opposed to the Busch car. I'm glad that we went and tested because it made me a lot more confidant that we have a car that can run in the top-15."
Watch all of the heart stopping action at the "The World's Fastest Half-Mile" as Shane Hmiel and the WINFUEL team try to keep their season on track and headed toward the finish line. Busch series race coverage starts live on FOX this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EST. Followed by live coverage of the Nextel Cup race on FOX, Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EST.
