Joliet, Ill-- Herzog Motorsports' Todd Bodine grabbed the pole for Saturday's Busch Series race with a lap time of 30.206 seconds, a speed of 178.772 mph.

Ppc's Scott Riggs put his No. 10 Ford on the outside pole with a speed of 178.725 mph.

Winston Cup regular Jeff Burton qualified third in his No. 9 Roush Racing Ford with a speed of 178.719 mph. Jeff Green driving the No. 21 Chevy and Brewco's fill-in driver Kevin Lepage in the No. 37 Chevy, closed out the top five.

Qualifying was delayed twice as Christian Elder, driving the No. 38 Ford was airlifted to a local hospital after wrecking his car during his qualifying lap. Elder was in turn three on the 1.5 mile track when his car hit the outside wall.

Elder was said to have a concussion and a possible broken right clavicle. He is expected to receive further CT scans on his head and neck. He recently returned to the No. 38 following surgery on a herniated cervical disc in his neck.

A short while after Edler's wreck, Dan Pardus, driving the No. 32, also wrecked his car hard into the outside retaining wall. Pardus' car broke out in flames after the hit.

Team Rensi's Bobby Hamilton, Jr who has been plagued with bad luck as of late, will start sixth. Hendrick Motorsports' Ricky Hendrick and Joe Gibbs Racing's Mike McLaughlin start seventh and eighth respectively.

Riggs' teammate and second place points man Jason Keller will roll off of the grid ninth while points leader Greg Biffle rounds out the top 10 with a speed of 177.491 mph.
