Chapter 7: Iron Men attack Darlington

For the three NASCAR drivers who are attempting to run full seasons in both the Cup and Busch series, the weekend proved rewarding.

Greg Biffle scored his first wins at Darlington on the Busch side of things and then finished twelfth in the Cup event.

Kasey Khane had a busy weekend; he finished the Busch race in eleventh, scored a Bud pole for the cup race, followed up with a thirteenth place ride.

Johnny Sauter was the only one of the three who had a quiet weekend. It appears he did not have much to say, after NASCAR fined him and took points after his off color remarks during a PRN interview in Las Vegas. Sauter finished twenty -seventh in the Busch event followed by a twenty seventh-place finish on Sunday.

Series rookie Kyle Busch claimed his first pole as he danced with the lady in black.

Busch who last season scored a runner up finish at his first outing at the track was pleased with his performance.

"I think that was as close to a perfect lap as you can run here", said Busch. " It was on the edge and I'm still like a little white from it but nonetheless it was pretty cool."

So perfect that when it became race time, NASCAR officials called Busch into the pits to check his car during the parade lap.

"We put a water bottle in and I guess they thought we were putting traction control in so they wanted to come over and make sure that we weren't doing anything." Noted Busch, who experienced problems during the race to finish seventeenth.

BACE Motorsports diver Damon Lusk experienced a close shave well before he arrived at Darlington. Lusk participated in an anniversary event for CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation. Lusk shaved his head to help raise money for the charity. "I have to admit it was a little intimating at first to have my head shaved, noted Lusk. Lusk scored a twenty --fifth place finish at Darlington.
