"That was flat out on both ends. I never lifted and that's all she had. This is a motor and handling type race track. It sounds weird because every place is, but there's only one thing that makes the car go faster when you go around the race track flat out and that's less drag and more power. I was probably a little bit tight and that probably cost me a tenth. I never lifted, but I had a little more wheel in it and that ran it up the hill just a little bit, so I probably would have done a 50."
WILL THE DRAFT COME INTO PLAY TOMORROW? "It's not necessarily the draft, but you won't be able to hold it wide open tomorrow. You only hold it wide open for one lap and thank goodness because otherwise we'd be going back to the drawing board."
MIKE MCLAUGHLIN-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Qualified 7th)
"I think we could have been a lot better, but it bottomed out pretty good. I was wide open until I hit the bump and then I was looking at the fence and had to roll off the throttle and gather it back up."
THERE WAS QUITE A LARGE SPREAD IN QUALIFYING TIMES FOR THE TOP 10 CARS. "The guys up front have good cars where they can run wide open to run those times. In the race you'll have to roll out, but the good cars will be rolling out half throttle and be able to put it back down. This is a fast place all day long. The draft will come into play a little bit tomorrow, but at the same time it's still handling from the center of the corner, so you have handling and draft."
ROBERT PRESSLEY-47-Clorox/Wisk Ford Taurus (Qualified 25th)
"We managed to pick up from practice, but that's because we didn't get a clean lap in there. These guys have been working hard the last three or four weeks and we're picking up a little at a time. If we can keep on doing that then we'll be happy."
HOW DID THE WEATHER IMPACT THE QUALIFYING TIMES TODAY? "It's a little bit cooler than normally when we come down here. This race track has always been fast and I love this race track. We know we can make things better; we just have to work at it and get everything right."
MARK MARTIN-9-Cottman Transmissions Taurus (Qualified 24th)
"We picked up a lot more than I thought we would. It's just a little frustrating because it seems like qualifying doesn't seem to be working out too good. But, all of the racing starts tonight and I bet the racing works out a lot better than the qualifying does."
