McDowell escapes Bristol unscathed with 18th-place finish

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 22, 2010) - The seemingly daunting high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway conquered several NASCAR Nationwide Series cars over the course of 300 laps Saturday. Michael McDowell wasn't one of them. In fact, McDowell had what he feels was his "best race of the season."

McDowell and his MacDonald Motorsports team struggled with finding speed in practice, carrying over to time trials where McDowell qualified 40th in his Mobile-Shop Dodge.

One free pass was all McDowell needed to stay on the lead lap as he dodged 11 caution flags and utilized a strong team effort from the No. 81 crew on pit road to bring the Mobile-Shop Dodge home in 18th.

"This was a great day for us," said McDowell. "The MacDonald Motorsports guys did a great job preparing this Mobile-Shop Dodge for race conditions and it showed. We had a lot of luck on our side, but that's just a reward for the hard work these guys have put in.

"Our first top-20 finish of the season, our best race of the season. This program is getting bigger and better every week."

McDowell moved up one spot in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings, now in 26th.

McDowell and the No. 81 MacDonald Motorsports Dodge will return to the track on Saturday, April 3 as the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series resumes at Nashville Superspeedway.
