Spencer to drive No. 2 ASE/CARQUEST Dodge truck in next two races

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 29, 2003) -- Jason Leffler, driver of the No. 2 ASE/CARQUEST Dodge in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, has been released from the remaining part of his contract, Ultra Motorsports owner Jim Smith confirmed today.

"After close consultation with Dodge, ASE and CARQUEST, we have decided to release Jason Leffler from his contract at Ultra Motorsports so that he may more vigorously pursue an opportunity to drive in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series," Smith said. "Jason is an exceptional driver, and his performance in the No. 2 ASE/CARQUEST truck has no doubt caught the attention of other Winston Cup owners. I've supported Jason since the beginning of his career, and if he feels that moving to the Winston Cup Series is best for him and his family, then I don't want to stop him. We wish him nothing but the best."

immy Spencer, who drives Ultra Motorsports' No. 7 car in the Winston Cup Series, will serve as an interim driver for the upcoming NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Richmond.

"Spencer is a team player, and he has agreed to drive the No. 2 truck for ASE and CARQUEST so that we may further evaluate who we want to permanently take over. I couldn't be happier with the teamwork being displayed at Ultra Motorsports. Last week Ted Musgrave helped our Winston Cup team by driving the No. 7 car at Bristol, and this week Spencer has volunteered to help our No. 2 truck team by driving at Richmond."

So far this year, Team ASE/CARQUEST has gone to Victory Lane once, sat on the pole twice, and earned 10 top-10 finishes, all with Leffler behind the wheel. Leffler joined the Ultra Motorsports team in 2002.
