FORT WORTH-DALLAS (May 30, 2001) - Things are often done differently in Texas. Such is the case for three NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series homestate teams as they prepare for the O'Reilly 400, presented by Valvoline DuraBlend, Friday night, June 8 at Texas Motor Speedway.

David Starr of Arlington, who started in the front row in last fall's O'Reilly 400 race in Texas, will drive the truck that won last fall's Texas event in search of his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory. Patrick Lawler of Colleyville, will wheel a Chevrolet Silverado owned by one of the few female truck owners in the series. Loni Richardson of Paris will debut a special Texas paint scheme for the O'Reilly 400.

Starr will team with his uncle, Mike, who purchased the Team Menard Chevrolet Silverado that Bryan Reffner drove into last October's Texas victory lane. Mike Starr, one of the proprietors of the Team Texas Driving School, took delivery of Reffner's truck last week and has the team in high gear preparing for the race.

"We just got the truck back yesterday from the paint shop and I was in the shop past 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night," said David Starr. "We are just so excited to have the chance to race at our home track, Texas Motor Speedway. As a Texan, it is always fun to race at the speedway in front of our homestate fans.

"We have two engines available for the race," continued Starr speaking of the effort sponsored by Chasco with associate sponsorships from O'Reilly Auto Parts and KSCS Radio. "We had to change the truck to the new SB-2 engine which is a 12:1 compression compared to last year's 9.5:1. Each motor we have requires different engine mounts so we are prepared for either engine, whichever we decide to use. I think the new engine will produce 85 more horsepower this year and raise speeds four to five miles per hour."

"I went to Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago to look at Menard's truck and bought it on the spot," said Mike Starr. "We are really looking forward to giving David a truck capable of winning in Texas."

Lawler will be driving the Manheim Auto Auctions Chevrolet Silverado for Plano's Kim Hansen who purchased the team from Lawler and former Texas Ranger Jeff Russell. Hansen's purchase adds another vehicle to Hansen Motorsports that fields cars in Legends, American Race Truck and Super Late Models.

"This is so exciting for everyone at Hansen Motorsports but also for race fans here in Fort Worth and Dallas," said Hansen. "My husband (Michael) and I, along with our children, have always been in racing, and we intend to win at every level. Buying the truck team is the first step in our long-term racing goals.

"In the past, auto racing has been primarily a man's sport," continued Hansen. "I knew I could run the team and be successful, so I bought the truck."

Loni Richardson will debut a special Texas paint scheme on his Chevrolet Silverado to be sponsored in the O'Reilly 400 by Blue Streak Industries, Inc. with an associated sponsorship by Intensity Custom Racewear. Blue Streak Industries is based in Denison, adding to the all-Texas effort.

"We wanted to give fans from Texas something extra to cheer for in the O'Reilly 400 at Texas Motor Speedway," said Richardson who earlier this year competed at the speedway's Dirt Track. "The front of our truck will be blue, the front quarter panels red and the roof white with a huge star on the hood, all honoring Texan race fans.

"We are tickled to be racing close to home," commented Richardson. "The three truck races we have run this year have been thousands of miles from home. That makes the O'Reilly 400 so special for our team."

Tickets for the O'Reilly 400, presented by Valvoline DuraBlend, are available at the speedway ticket office, by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at Ticketmaster locations. Fans will receive an O'Reilly 400 ticket with the purchase of a case of Valvoline DuraBlend at participating O'Reilly Auto Parts locations.
