Ron Hornaday, Jr. Captures Sixth Victory of the Season in the Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway; Closes Gap in Championship Battle to Within Six Points of Leader with Two Races Remaining

Ft Worth - Ron Hornaday, Jr. powered his way to his sixth victory of the season in the Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) to move just sixth points out of the point standings lead with two races to go. Hornaday also won the June '08 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at TMS.

"I am just really proud of this VFW team here tonight," said Hornaday from victory lane. "I think I was kissing Eddie (Gossage) here last time with that Cowboy hat on last time because I wanted it really bad and to come back here and win this, that is awesome. Johnny Benson is right there and its going to come right down there to the end and that is what it's all about. Kyle (Busch) and those guys ran me hard and Kvapil. It's awesome to get our Silverado up there and this track is just really wide and just really happy tonight and we'll see everybody back at home soon."

"I'm pretty good at Phoenix and Johnny (Benson) is good there too, and we just have to get down there and see what happens. We are going to race him hard and tonight when we were racing side-by-side I didn't want to give him a chance to get loose and get into me so I waited a couple of laps to get back by him. But Rick Ren and the guys on this VFW Chevrolet did a great job and I just have to thank all these fans that came out here tonight and sat out here all day today through qualifying and sat out here to watch the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and I hate to see Craftsman leaving, but we have a good sponsor in Camping World coming next year."

Hornaday, the defending and three-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, led twice for a total of 45 of the 147-lap race.

Cale Gale, No. 2 American Commercial Lines Silverado, who had qualified second, was involved in a multi-truck accident and finished a disappointing 30th place.

After going to a backup truck following an accident during practice, Matt Crafton, No. 88 Menards/McGuire Nicholas Silverado, rallied to finish 19th and remain fifth in the standings.

Johnny Benson continues as the points leader. Kyle Busch, Benson, Todd Bodine and Colin Braun completed the top-five finishers.

Round 24 of the 25-race season will be November 7 at Phoenix International Raceway.

RON HORNADAY, NO. 33 VFW SILVERADO, QUALIFIED 7TH, FINISHED 1st:

"I am just really proud of this VFW team here tonight. I think I was kissing Eddie (Gossage) here last time with that Cowboy hat on last time because I wanted it really bad and to come back here and win this, that is awesome. Johnny Benson is right there and its going to come right down there to the end and that is what it's all about. Kyle (Busch) and those guys ran me hard and Kvapil. RON YOU GUYS WERE A LAP DOWN TONIGHT, I KNOW YOU WERE A LITTLE CONCERNED AT ONE POINT BUT THEN TO GET RIGHT BACK OUT THERE, RACED YOUR WAY BACK INTO THE LEAD LAP AND WIN ANOTHER ONE AT TEXAS, HOW'S IT FEEL? "First of all I've got to thank all the troops and everything they do for us and VFW, Camping World, Chevrolet, everybody and Mark Smith, what an awesome job on the motors. Rick Wren made a heck of a call and dropped that track bar. I didn't think it was the right call but it just got that spoiler up in the air and it really got me getting in before I was getting loose getting in. Congratulations little Tory on her report card and everybody back at home, we'll see you tomorrow."

SECOND TIME YOU FIND YOURSELF IN VICTORY LANE HERE IN TEXAS, THIS ONE YOU HAD TO WORK FOR THIS ONE. YOU GUYS GOT DOWN A LITTLE EARLY WHEN YOU CAME DOWN TO MAKE A PIT STOP YOU GOT SENT TO THE TAIL OF THE LEAD LAP BUT YOU BATTLED YOUR WAY BACK AND FOUND YOURSELF OUT FRONT. "Well we already ran out of fuel once and Rick Wren made the right call to come down in there, but that piece of debris on the back straightaway put us down a lap. I knew we had a good truck. I'll tell you Kyle (Busch) and Travis (Kvapil) everybody just ran me so clean. First of all I've got to thank all the fans up there. This is awesome to come here to Texas. Everything is so big in Texas. Wear that cowboy hat last year and then to come back and win it again, the beginning of this year. This is cool especially with VFW on the side and all the troops with what they do for us and everything for our freedom. Mark Smith with the motors. This just says a lot. Rick Wren made the right call and the adjustment on the track bar it just brought this thing to life and stood the back end up and this thing really ran good."

WHEN MOST PEOPLE SEEMED TO FALL OFF A LITTLE BIT DOWN THE STRETCH YOU GUYS SEEMED TO GET STRONGER AND STRONGER. "Yeah, if we hadn't been saving fuel I think we could have ran the whole thing wide open. I was actually trying to save fuel. I was just breathing it just a little bit getting in and running through the corners wide open. Whatever he's done, the downforce or whatever he's got in this truck is unbelievable. They're doing their homework. I've got to thank Chevrolet and everybody, Camping World, VFW, everybody just doing a lot of work on this thing. Mark Smith like I said doing the motors. This is what it's all about. Just going out there and trying to win races."

BIG PICTURE, YOU'RE SIX (POINTS) DOWN TO JOHNNY BENSON AS YOU HEAD TO WHAT IS EXACTLY REFERRED TO THE LAND OF HORNADAY AND HARVICK AS YOU GO BACK TO PHOENIX NEXT WEEK. "That's going to be cool. Johnny (Benson) runs well there. I remember when he got spun out with Skinner and come back to win the race. It's going to be a heck of race because like I said Johnny runs good there and then he's comes back to run third here at Texas. This is unbelievable. I just can't shake him. It's kind of like I said, thank my wife and everybody. This is fun. This is what racing is all about."

CALE GALE, NO. 2 AMERICAN COMMERCIAL LINES SILVERADO, QUALIFIED 2ND, FINISHED 30th:

"I don't know, we were just trying to settle out there and went three wide getting' in to turn one. I don't really know, but when the No. 09 pulled out from under my back bumper cover, I don't know if it got me loose or what, but I got up in to Crawford (Rick) and caused a big mess on lap two of the race. It is really unfortunate; our Chevrolet Silverado has been fast all weekend and ended up on jack stands. I really hate it cause that Kevin and DeLana (Harvick) gave me just to go out here and show what I can do. It sucks but we will get them the next time.

"Our American Commercial Lines Chevrolet was fast all weekend. It's the same truck that Ryan (Newman) won with last weekend. I don't know what happened there. It looks like I might have drifted up a little bit. I don't know it was three-wide early in the race. I don't know it tore up a lot of good trucks but hopefully we'll come back and get them soon."

T. J. BELL, NO. 7 HOME4THEHOLIDAYS.ORG SILVERADO, QUALIFIED 8th, FINISHED 32nd:

FIVE CONSECUTIVE TOP-10'S ENDING HERE TONIGHT, WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE? "I'm not really sure. You know guys racing super hard at the very beginning of the race. Just a shame it took a great Chevy Silverado/Home 4 the Holiday's out of this Chevy Silverado race tonight. We look forward to Phoenix. I guess we'll regather here and head to Phoenix with our new sponsor Sponge Tech and keep going there."
