Chad Chaffin Gives Team A on Report Card
Confidence the Key: "Confidence plays a huge part in racing. The team has to have confidence in the driver and the driver has to have confidence in the team. It has to be the perfect equation. When I start a race I have 100 percent confidence that my team has done the best they can do to set up my truck. They have to have confidence that I can go out and win with what they have given me. The confidence level of the whole team is going to have its ups and downs. If you have a couple bad races in a row you really start to question your ability to either drive or the setups you've created. On the other hand, the confidence a victory can bring is immeasurable. I think the challenge is balancing the good and bad. You have to be able to except the bad races, learn from them and turn them into victories next time."
Report Card: "I am really proud of my team and BHR as a whole organization. Coming into the 2004 season we really wanted to get the Dickies Dodge into victory lane. We have been able to do that twice and have been contenders to win on several other occasions. During the summer stretch the Dickies Dodge finished in the top 10 almost every weekend. We went to Nashville and finished 12th and were so disappointed because it was not a top 10. That proved to me how competitive we have become since our win at Dover. Our trucks have been extremely competitive every week and we've been lucky to have parts that don't break. It all makes a big difference. I won't say we are where we want to be, but we are on our way. There is definitely room for improvement. I do not feel we have led enough laps this season and I wish we had a few more top 10's, but we have made great strides. That is what I will take away from this season and play off of it for next year."
* Chad is racing Scarface this weekend at Texas.
* He has raced it six times this season finishing in the top five twice with this truck.
* Chaffin finished 5th at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this season.
Texas Preview: "Texas Motor Speedway is one of the fastest tracks we go to. It's a lot of fun to race on. We are taking Scarface back. We finished fifth with this particular truck in the spring and ran really strong. Then we had a miscue in the pits and had to come from the back to finish fifth. Texas is Dickies home town. I would love to get another win for Dickies and to do it in their hometown would be icing on the cake. We really need some good things to happen in these final races for the Dickies Racing Team. We sit sixth in points and I really want to get back into the top five before the end of this year. Texas would be a great place to get a win and gain some ground on the guys in front of us."
