ROYAL CROWN RACE NOTES O'REILLY AUTO PARTS 200 I-70 SPEEDWAY MAY 22, 1999
· SHORT TRACK SUCCESS Stacy Compton is excited about this weekend's race at I-70 and with good reason. Compton's performance on the short tracks in the NCTS is quite impressive with nine top-10's (dating back to the Martinsville race on 9/26) and two Bud Pole Awards, including this year's qualifying effort at Mesa Marin Raceway. "I-70 reminds me a lot of Bristol back home," said Compton. "It's a tight little track that is fast. We should be strong here on Saturday."
· HORSES IN A BULL RING The No. 86 RC Dodge will have plenty of horsepower on Saturday. Joey Arrington is the engine builder who has put together a great package for Compton this season. "Joey has given us an incredible motor program," noted Compton. "I-70 is a bull ring, It's a fast track with a tight field. If we can qualify up front, we should be strong enough to stay out of trouble and finish in the top-10."
· TEAM RC LOOKING FOR 7 OUT OF 8 TOP FIVE'S Compton has collected six top-four's and one Bud Pole Award in the first seven races of the '99 NCTS season, leading the points until last Sunday's event. The team suffered the first setback with a 30th place effort at Pikes Peak International Raceway. "We broke a two dollar part," Compton said. "We lost the points lead, but we'll get 'em this week at I-70." Compton is currently third in the NCTS points with 1074, trailing points leader Ron Hornaday by 51 marks.
