Stacy Compton began the 1999 season with consistency and strong performances, leading the NCTS point standings with six top-four's in the first six events. Recently, Team RC has had their share of bad luck, including races at Pikes Peak, Texas, Portland and Nashville. Compton was running in third place when he lost a motor in Colorado, dropped a cylinder at Texas, cut a tire at Portland and wrecked while leading at Nashville Speedway. "We need some racing luck," Compton said. "The team is doing all the right things, we just had a run of bad luck. We need some good luck this weekend."

Compton was leading last week's race at Nashville when he got caught up in lapped traffic on the backstretch. Lack of experience from younger drivers caused a wreck involving the No. 86 RC Dodge, bringing out the first caution of the race. Still sore from the wreck, Compton climbed back into the truck after the team made repairs, finishing 27th. "We had a great lead at Nashville," Compton stated. "I'm a little sore, but I'll be ready to race on Sunday." Stacy Compton and his teammates survived the roller coaster weekend last year at Nazareth Speedway. Team RC led all competitors in the early practice rounds with lap times within a tenth of a second off the track record. Compton hit the wall, in turn two, during Friday's qualifying session, destroying the primary truck. Forced to race the backup truck, the team went to work replacing the nose on the No. 86 truck. Compton started the race, dead last, in the 32nd position. He battled his way through the field, finishing second to Ron Hornaday. "We could have won this race," said Compton. "We just ran out of laps."
