Sprague gets new truck sponsor
By Tim Packman
FONTANA, Ca. (Oct. 28, 2000) Hendrick Motorsports has announced their new primary sponsor for two-time champion Jack Sprague's team beginning in 2001. NetZero, Inc. is a provider of advertising and commerce supported Internet access. Sprague has provided Hendrick Motorsports with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championships in 1997 and '99. Now the two organizations are hooking up to provide support for each other.
An announcement was made at California Speedway, prior to Saturday's Motorola 200, that Sprague will carry the red, white and blue NetZero colors on his No. 24 Chevrolet beginning with the truck series opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 13, 2001.
"This is a big day for everyone associated with NetZero," stated Brian Woods, chief marketing officer of NetZero. "We are very impressed with NASCAR racing as a marketing vehicle and feel like it is a perfect fit to add even more power to the already rapid growth we've experienced since introducing NetZero in October of 1998. To be associated with a championship driver like Jack Sprague, and a quality organization like Hendrick Motorsports in our first NASCAR program is more than we had ever hoped for."
Since it's launch in October 1998, NetZero (www.netzero.net) has registered more than five million users and is available in over 4,000 cities nationwide. The company offers consumers free unlimited Internet access, free e-mail and navigational tools through its exclusive 'ZeroPort' instant speed dial feature.
Sprague offers a wealth of experience to his new primary sponsor as he is the only driver to start all 145 races in the six-year history of the series. Along the way he has earned 19 victories, 13 poles, 82 top-5s and 115 top-10s in his career.
The NetZero sponsorship with Sprague and Hendrick Motorsports is a multi-year agreement. GMAC Financial Services will continue its relationship as an associate sponsor with the team.
"Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy great success in the series behind the wheel of a Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet," said Sprague. "We've always had great sponsorship, most recently from GMAC Financial Services. I'm totally confident we're going to provide that same kind of championship performance to NetZero." k
