Scott Hansen Track Notes Michigan Speedway - July 24, 1999
No. 52 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet Michigan Notes & Quotes
Hansen at Michigan: Scott Hansen, driver of the No. 52 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet, has competed once at Michigan Speedway in the ASA series. Hansen started the event fifth and finished 20th.
"I am really excited about returning to Michigan," Hansen said. "I have been waiting a long time to get another chance to redeem myself there. I had a chance at a win and let it get away. In 1994 in the ASA series, I was leading the race when I came in to the pits for fuel. While exiting the pits, I shifted too fast and broke the rear end shaft. A driver never forgets about the races they should have won. Since the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has never competed at Michigan, I am hoping my past experience will give me an advantage over the other competitors. I have already proven I can lead at Michigan, now I just have to make sure I am leading at the last lap." Superspeedway Experience: Although Hansen has superspeedway experience, he has never competed in a truck at the two-mile oval.
"I have some experience on superspeedways, including Daytona, in my racing career, but I feel Michigan will prove to be an extremely challenging track in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck," Hansen said. "Drafting will play a huge factor at Michigan, but the track has a wide racing surface capable of two and three wide racing. I think the team that has the best motor package, combined with a driver that knows how to work the draft well, will be the team in victory lane at the end of the day."
Equipment: The Oakwood Homes Racing team is taking the same truck to Michigan that competed earlier this year at Texas.
Heading Into Michigan, Looking Back at Nazareth
Proud Performer: Scott Hansen and the Oakwood Homes Racing team are thrilled after finishing third last weekend at Nazareth Speedway. It was the team's best finish of the 1999 season. "The Oakwood Homes Racing team is on a high note right now," Hansen said. "I feel the boost of confidence we got from finishing third will help us perform even better at Michigan. When your energy cycle is high, you feel you can accomplish anything and I know the Oakwood Homes Racing team feels that a win at Michigan is definitely within our reach."
