Crawford Finishes Third At Phoenix Shoot Out
Phoenix, AZ- Rick Crawford and the #14 Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford finished third during a two lap shoot out in the Chevy Silverado 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway. Crawford drove the wheels off the #14 Ford but came up two positions short of the top finish.
Crawford and the #14 Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford started the race in third position after Thursday afternoon's qualifying effort. This is the second race in a row that the team has started the race in third position or better.
Once again, Crawford wasted no time charging into the lead. By lap three the #14 had moved into second place and was shadowing the leader. On lap thirteen, Crawford took the lead and picked up five valuable bonus points towards the championship race. The entire race Crawford and the #14 Ford were in the hunt for the win.
The caution flag flew on lap 147 when the #90 truck blew a right front tire and sent debris onto the track. Under NCTS rules, races cannot finish under caution. During the restart on lap 154, the caution flew again when a truck wrecked between turns one and two, extending the race even longer. Those late cautions set the stage for the two-lap shoot out that actually extended the race nine laps. The leader took the green and Crawford had the #14 Ford in contention for the win. "I whipped the horse for all she was worth. We came up a little short. The team has three top five finishes in the last three races; the last two races were third or better. We had a good point day and we are only 37 points from finishing as the top Ford team for the season. With the great support from sponsors Milwaukee Electric Tool, Lennox and Mobil 1, we'll get it," stated driver Rick Crawford. The #14 Ford is a mere six points from eighth place and only 37 from ending the season in seventh position, a career best.
Crawford and the #14 Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford will take the green flag in the season finale Auto Club 200 at the California Speedway, Saturday November 3rd, at 4:00 p.m. EST. The event will be telecast live on ESPN and broadcast live on MRN Radio.
