Crash thwarts Richmond effort for Portenga.

RICHMOND, Va. - After charging from the back of the pack into the top-20, Steve Portenga's run at the Virginia is for Lovers 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the Richmond International Raceway Thursday, September 5 was ruined in a mid-race wreck.

"We had a very good truck," Portenga said. "The Roto-Rooter Chevrolet was coming to us. We were moving up from the back of the pack. I think we could have finished in the top-15."

Portenga returned to the race after missing nearly 100 laps for repairs. He finished 29th in the 36-truck field, completing 103 of 200 laps around the 0.75-mile oval. Portenga started 33rd in the race, utilizing a provisional starting position.

The performance dropped Portenga to 20th in the series point standings.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series continues with a September 13 event in Roanoke, Texas.
