WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Randy Tolsma and the No. 25 CITGO-SUPERGARD Motor Oil Dodge team notched another top-10 this weekend in the BULLY HILL VINEYARDS 150 at Watkins Glen International.
During practice sessions at The Glen, Tolsma's lap times were in the top-15. Making continual improvements, the crew worked hard on the CITGO-SUPERGARD Motor Oil Dodge to improve speed by changing gears on the truck twice.
During the five-minute European style qualifying session, Tolsma's first lap time would eventually be the 13th fastest. On his second lap, Tolsma experienced motor trouble between turns 10 and 11 on the 2.45-mile course. He brought the CITGO-SUPERGARD Motor Oil Dodge into the garage where the team changed the motor. Unable to practice for the final session, or happy hour, the team had to start the race without any track time on the new motor.
"The second lap was going to be much faster than the first," Tolsma said. "I'm a little disappointed weren't able to run in happy hour, but I'm glad we at least had a good qualifying time on the first lap."
On race day, Tolsma was confident the motor change or lack of practice time would not hinder his performance. Fighting a tight condition early on in the event, the crew made adjustments to better the truck and pulled off great pit stops.
Tolsma finished the event in the 10th place. The finish marks Tolsma's fourth straight top-10 and eighth of the season. He is seventh in the point standings going into the next race in Milwaukee, and gaining.
"Milwaukee has always been a great track for us. Last year I started the race on the outside pole. We will take advantage of the optional test session to work on race setups."
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes to the Milwaukee Mile on Friday June 30, 2000 for Bud Pole Qualifying at 3:30 p.m. EST. The SEARS DIEHARD 200 will take place on Saturday July 1, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. EST.
