Hmiel Fights For Fourth at Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ -(November 7, 2004) Shane Hmiel in the No. 15 TRIMSPA Chevrolet Silverado brought home a hard fought fourth place finish in the Chevy Silverado 150 at Phoenix International Raceway. Hmiel started in the 13th position quickly began to power his way through the field. The Billy Ballew Motorsports Chevrolet was topping the times of the leader by lap 25 and had already advanced to the 7th position. Hmiel was able to make his way towards the front even though he called on crew chief Ritchie Wauters for some adjustments to the TRIMSPA Silverado.
"We had an excellent day in the TRIMSPA Chevrolet today," Hmiel said. "We had to do some air pressure adjustments in the beginning of the race. I was having a hard time getting the truck to drive into the corners better and stick. When we pitted I told the guys I needed some air on the nose so they made the appropriate changes in pressure which seemed to help. On our second stop, I had still not gotten as good as I wanted to be so we made some major air pressure adjustments, and it really help tremendously. I still seemed to be better in the long runs but there were a lot of caution laps that hurt us."
The Chevy 150 turned out to be a Silverado Shootout with David Starr and Jack Sprague battling for the win while Hmiel and Crafton battled for the third spot. Hmiel and Matt Crafton seemed to play cat and mouse during the majority of the race trading positions back and forth. Hmiel had difficulties on his restarts was unable to catch the fellow Chevrolet driver Matt Crafton and settled in a forth place spot when the checkered dropped.
"I wasn't able to get up to speed like I wanted on the restarts and that didn't help us at all," Hmiel said. "I can't complain about taking home a fourth place finish for the Billy Ballew Motorsports TRIMSPA Chevrolet. Matt and I have gotten into each other a few times this year by accident. I was happy that we were able to race each other fair and clean. I might have caught him if we had a few more laps but I just didn't have enough to take him. Overall it was a great race and a big bonus having the first four finishers being Chevrolets. I want to thank my guys and Ritchie for all the work they do and for putting me in such good equipment every race."
Hmiel heads back east and will again be playing double duty in both the No. 15 TRIMSPA Chevrolet NASCAR Craftsman Truck and the No. 32 TRIMSPA Dodge NASCAR Busch car in Darlington. Both races will be broadcast live. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck race will be live on SPEED Friday November 12th at 8:00 p.m. ET and the NASCAR Busch Series race will be televised live Saturday on TNT at 1:00 p.m. ET.
