Musgrave earns pole at Phoenix, gets set for final championship stretch

Ted Musgrave set the track record in qualifying at Phoenix International Raceway yesterday evening when he circuited the one-mile oval at 129.427 mph on his way to his fourth pole position of the season. This preliminarily puts him in prime position to pick up some critical points tomorrow afternoon in the thrilling NCTS championship race.

Musgrave is currently 69 points behind leader Brendan Gaughan and his No. 62 Dodge Ram team. Four drivers are within 72 points of the lead, with tomorrow's race at Phoenix and the Nov. 14 season finale remaining on the schedule.

"We just have to put blinders on and do what we've got to do," Musgrave said. "Whatever happens to the other teams ... we can't control their destiny, we can only control ours." Musgrave and his Ultra Motorsports team will campaign the same truck and setup which they brought to a second-place at Phoenix last year, and they are very optimistic of their chances.

Cheer on the No. 1 Mopar Dodge Ram of Ted Musgrave on Halloween Friday by watching live race coverage on Speed Channel beginning at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.
