SPEED SALVAGES 14TH AT PIR

Red Bull rookie Scott Speed continued his impressive late-season run in the Craftsman Truck Series on Friday night, finishing 14th at Phoenix International Raceway.

Early last week, Speed admitted he'd "never even seen Phoenix," a tricky and flat 1- mile track. But he and the No. 22 Red Bull Toyota were quick from the start, timing in 11th and eighth in Thursday's two practice sessions. Then he qualified fourth hours before the race.

Speed held on to a loose truck and ran in the top five before the team pitted twice under caution just past halfway — once for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment and the other to fix right-front damage. He restarted 21st and rallied to 14th over the final 55 laps.

Including his June victory at Dover, Speed has four top fives and eight top 15s in his past 10 races with an average finish of 10.5. Thursday in Homestead, Speed will take to another track he's never seen as he wraps up the Craftsman Truck season in south Florida.
