Chad McCumbee Puts No. 08 Silverado on Outside Front Row at Nashville Superspeedway with Career-Best Qualifying Effort
Team Chevy Grabs Three of Top-10 Starting Positions for Toyota 200
Lebanon, TN - Raybestos Rookie contender Chad McCumbee posted a career-best qualifying effort putting his No. 08 The GPS Store/Garmin Silverado on the outside of the front row at Nashville Superspeedway. A total of three Team Chevy Silverado drivers will start in the top-10 of the Toyota Tundra 200.
CHAD MCCUMBEE , No. 08 The GPS Store/Garmin Silverado, Qualified 2nd:
"I thought that the lap was pretty impressive. Anytime you are that close, you think, man, I could have found more somewhere, but again, you could have crashed trying. We will definitely take that, and it is huge for our team, and huge for me. It is my best qualifying effort in the Truck Series. I just have to thank the GPS Store.com, and Garmin for coming on board and helping us get through the rest of the season. It is also our first outing with a new crew chief, and so far so good. Hopefully, we will race that well."
What did you concentrate on during practice yesterday?
"We didn't do anything qualifying-wise, and that is why I am so happy with this. I think we generally have a good truck this weekend. We worked on only race runs, and we had one set of tires that we never changed throughout practice. We were going to make a sticker run at the end of practice, and then the rain moved in, and we couldn't get it in. If we could have made a sticker run, we could have run a 29.50 or something like that, but I will take what we ran out there, and will get ready for the race."
What are your goals for the race?
"I had a weird feeling when we started practicing that we actually may have a shot at this thing. Our goal all this year has been just to finish, and that is not going to change, and I think if we have good pit stops, stay on sequence with everyone else, I think that we will have a shot at our first top-five. Going into this, we just wanted to run in the top-15 week in and week out, so we will just have to see where we end up."
How is the chemistry with the team, with you having a new crew chief?
"I am loving it. I can trust every word these guys tell me, and that is really important. I am really excited about Kevin coming over and we had really great communication yesterday, and hopefully that will continue today. People are starting to look at our team, and we have gained some attention. That is good for the whole team, and hopefully we can continue to make gains in the future, and have a good run today."
