A Podium Finish For David Starr

Lebanon, Tenn...Running a masterful race, David Starr put his No. 75 Spears Chevrolet in second place at Round 15 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, August 14.

"The team gave me a great truck," said Starr, who qualified in 8th. "It was a brand new piece and it definitely did the trick. This finish is certainly a great morale booster for the entire team. Now we just need to do it again and again."

When the Green Flag fell, Starr powered off the Startline determined to get to the front in short order. By Lap 39, when the first yellow flew, he was already in 5th. "The caution came out and we pitted," he explains. "Unfortunately, we had a little problem in the pit and when we went back we had slipped back to 23rd."

Never daunted, Starr immediately began picking off competitors one-by-one and by the time the third caution came out on Lap 85, he had made it up to 8th. Pitting for fuel and tires only, the team made up for the first problem, getting him out in the number 5 spot. "Our Spears Chevy was just perfect," said Starr. "I couldn't have asked for a better truck."

Continuing his march to the front, Starr took over the lead on 112 and continued to dominate the field until another caution came out on Lap 142. "Bobby Hamilton got the better of me on the restart," said Starr. "I made a mistake and spun the tires and he got the advantage. I drove deep into turn 3, but he drove deeper and managed to get past.

I thought he would wash up going in that hard and I would be able to slip back under him. He didn't though and managed to get enough ahead of me that there was no way I was going to catch him with only 8 laps to go. Naturally, I would have liked the win, but second is a lot better than we have been doing and we gained quite a bit. There are 10 more races to go and as evidenced by our performance today, we will be up there in Victory Lane soon."

Starr's finished moved him in 10th position in the point standings, just 1 point out of 9th and 18 points out of 8th. "We're going to just keep on doing well," says Starr "and move up as high as we can. We've shown we can do it and we plan to keep on showing the fans just how good our Spears Chevrolet really is."
