Chaffin Reflects on Halfway Point of Season

Halfway: "I knew going into this season the Dickies Dodge would be strong. We had confidence the whole BHR organization was going to be strong, but I also knew the entire series would be more competitive than last year. In reality, the BHR organization had to step up our program to maintain the status quo of what we were already doing. I feel like we have more than stepped up our program this season. BHR has four wins and we are right were we wanted to be at the midpoint. I am very pleased with the season so far."

The Slump: "We went through a midseason slump last year and with the help of Bobby and the engineering team we were able to overcome it. BHR did a lot of development work and we started seeing the results at Homestead last year when Bobby won the race. That momentum just carried over though winter testing. We have worked very hard at making our trucks really fast. Right now we are doing that. The key is our guys have always been reliable. My crew chief, Kip McCord, and I get along really well. Our communication is very strong and he is able to take what I feel about the truck and make the correct adjustments. Last season I tended to run really well in the beginning of a race and fall off at the end. This season is the total opposite; I'm stronger at the end. Now we strategize our adjustments during the race to be in competition at the end where it counts."

Goal Setting: "I don't really set goals because so much of racing is out of our hands. Our number one goal was to put the Dickies Dodge in victory lane and we have done that. In fact, we have been in contention to win at least two more times. As long as we continue to have a top five truck and solid pit stops, I am confident the Dickies Dodge will be back into victory lane. I want to finish this year top five in the points. The Dickies Racing Team has already accomplished more than other people thought we would this season."

Michigan Preview: "I am confident in our chances this weekend at Michigan. I finished third there last year and the Dickies Dodge continues to be extremely fast off the trailer. We will just make the adjustments needed to ensure a solid run. I would love to see the Dickies Dodge come out of Michigan third in points. I feel third in points is defiantly within our reach in the next few races. This team is going to stay focused and keep doing what we are doing. Michigan is just another week in this business."

Notes:

* Chad is racing Scarface this weekend in Michigan. He has raced it four times this season finishing in the top five twice with this truck.

* Chaffin finished third in last season's race at Michigan International Speedway.

* Chaffin has finished in the top five in the last five out of seven consecutive races.

Competition: "You never really know. In racing there can only be so many people at the top and so it varies from week to week. I am sure there are a lot of people who are surprised to see the Dickies Dodge running so strong. For us to be strong that means someone is not. I have seen some of the favorites going in at Daytona struggle this year. Everyone out there is working hard. If I had to pick a few of the favorites for the championship it would be Bobby Hamilton and Dennis Setzer. They are the two strongest right now and they are sitting atop the points standings. The Dickies race team is going to keep going into every race wanting to win and as long as our finishes continue to be strong we will be there in the end."
