Ryan Lawler Ready for Truck Series Debut
19-year old Ryan Lawler will be making his NASCAR Truck Series Debut at Martinsville Speedway this Saturday for the Kroger 250. Lawler will pilot the #07 SS-Green Light Racing Chevy around the famed ½ mile track. Short Track Legend, Butch Miller will be coaching Lawler through his first NASCAR Truck event, while veteran driver/team owner, Bobby Dotter will crew chief the young talent.
So just who is Ryan Lawler?
Lawler showed his talent in his rookie season in stock cars, racing in a number of different series in the South, including the NASCAR Southeast Series, PASS South Super Late Model Series and ASA Late Model Southern Division. In his rookie season, Lawler earned two victories in the ASA Late Models at Orange County (NC) and Watermelon Capital (GA) Speedways, as well as a huge Super Late Model victory in the PASS South competition at historic Hickory Motor Speedway. Lawler won last year's Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway and nearly won the 2008 event finishing second this past weekend.
"I'm really excited about racing for the first time in the truck series," said Lawler. "It's a challenge I've been working up to in my career. It's the next step in my career and I'm honored just to have the opportunity to race in the series."
"My goal is just to learn and gain as much track time as possible. Just to finish the race is the most important thing," added Lawler. "I have Butch Miller helping me and he's been a great coach and helps take the pressure off. He has a great deal of experience at Martinsville and short tracks in general. I'm just listening and learning right now."
Away from the track, Lawler works at Hampke Race Cars & Parts with legendary car builder and crew chief Robert Hamke.
