David Starr Eager for Martinsville

Eager to put their No. 75 Spears Chevy Silverado on the newly surfaced Martinsville Speedway, David Starr and the Spears Motorsports crew head to Virginia and the Kroger 200, Round 22 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Saturday, October 23.

"I can't wait to get on the track," says Starr with enthusiasm. "The whole track has been resurfaced and they have also made some additional improvements. It was a fun place to race before and from what I've heard, it should be even better now. " At the race in April we battled our way to a 9th place finish after spinning and losing the rear quarter panel. This time out we are looking to land on the Podium."

Enjoying a terrific second half of the season, Starr has consistently been moving up in the point standings and now has one win, six top fives and 13 top tens. "We gained another position at Texas last week," says the Houston native. "We are now sitting in 7th, just 36 points out of 5th. A strong finish at Martinsville would move us up another notch and that would be awesome."

Getting his start in short track racing, Starr is well versed on what it takes to win at a track like Martinsville Speedway. " To start you have to have a good handling truck and good brakes. Then you have to be able to stay totally focused, hit your marks, exercise a lot of patience and save your equipment so you are there at the end. And, last but not least, you need to have luck on your side. We seemed to have always had a little smile from Lady Luck, but not the big one that you really need. Hopefully this time we will win out. We know our Spears Chevy is definitely up to the job so all we need is that big smile."

Qualifying for the Kroger 200 gets underway on Friday, October 22 at 1:30 PM (ET) and race action starts on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00 PM (ET). Be sure to watch live qualifying on TruckSeries.com and then tune into SPEED for complete race coverage.
