Short Track Guru: "We've done a ton of testing over the past three week vacation. I've sent one team here and another one there. That is one of the best things about having three full time teams. We can base our notes on what the feedback from each other's test shows. So for this race in Martinsville, we'll be talking to short track guru and Martinsville winner Timothy Peters. He knows the track in and out and was extremely fast there for the test. I know that the basis he gives us there is something we can trust. The only drawback to a short track is that anything can happen at any time and cost you a good finish. That happened to me several years ago when Kevin Harvick and I tangled at the Cup race there. It cost us the win, and was a disappointing way to finish the event. We had led several laps and then he spun us which took us out of contention. At least we overcame that by going to Talladega the next weekend and winning there. Earlier this year we got the pole and went on to lead several laps, then tangled with Robert Huffman costing us again. You never know with short tracks what will happen, but at least we have a good basis to start from when we get our first practice."

Nashville Race Win: "The Nashville Speedway did a deal yesterday that was a past champion all-star race. They invited me to do it and I raced Bobby Jr.'s late model. It was a pretty important deal for me as they have only done this two times before and I won both of those. So we pulled out all the stops and ended up winning it again. Bobby Jr. has owned this late model the whole time and never won a race. So I got the chance last night to take him the trophy. He's a huge fan of trophies, so it really pleased him. It's kind of a different deal me driving for him, but we had a ton of fun with it. I'm just glad he gets to display that on his mantle and I won it for him."

Notes:

* Hamilton will be racing Slim Shady in Martinsville.

* In the spring Hamilton led the first 47 laps in Martinsville after qualifying on the pole and breaking the track record. Then Robert Huffman tapped Hamilton's Dodge causing him to spin and bring out the 10th caution of the race. Hamilton eventually finished 20th in the race. J

* Hamilton is slated to run the Nextel Cup Series race for James Finch in Martinsville.

Time Off: "It's amazing how time flies when you think you get a vacation and time off. We thought oh three weeks will be a great time to rest! Yeah right...Our pilot Jerry Adcock flew 5960 nautical miles during this so called break. We tested in Phoenix, Martinsville, Atlanta and Homestead. I tested all three teams and my Cup car at two of the places. It takes the whole shop to make that kind of turn around work, but all the guys rallied behind it and hopefully it will pay off with some wins in these last five races."
