Flat Tire Deflates Bodine's Top-5 Run at Mansfield

Mansfield, Oh. - Geoffrey Bodine hustled the No. 03 Team EJP Racing Chevrolet Silverado into the top-5 in Sunday's UAW/GM Ohio 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway before a flat tire dropped him from the lead lap. While the team's 22nd place finish was not indicative of their performance, Bodine and the team bring a positive attitude into the series' next event at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte.

"We had a strong truck, and the team made a really good call on pit strategy that moved us into the top-5," Bodine said afterward. "We ran comfortably behind the 1 and the 29 and pulled away from the guys behind us. We pitted and fell back into the pack and we were slowly getting ourselves back into contention. This place has two really good grooves which means you can run high or low, but you have to work to get past someone. But we were catching them and passing them as we got to them."

Bodine had again cracked the top-10 with less than 100 laps to go when contact with another truck entering turn one caused the left front tire to go flat. Entering turn three, Bodine was forced to lock the brakes to keep the truck off the retaining wall.

"We got together with the 07 truck," Bodine said. "The right rear of his truck was damaged and we made contact at the worst possible place. It wasn't anything either of us did, just short track racing. But it punctured the tire, and put an end to what was shaping up to be a pretty good day."

After the pit stop to replace the flat tire, Bodine ran among the leaders for the remainder of the event, noting that the truck was as strong as anyone else's on the speedway.

"I ran with those guys from the time I came back out until the time the race ended," he said. "The truck handled great, and the engine was strong. We didn't have to over extend ourselves to stay with them. It is a shame we weren't racing for position with them, but it is encouraging to see the team perform as well as we did here this weekend."

Bodine and the Team EJP Racing team return to action this weekend in the Infineon 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The event is scheduled for live broadcast on Speed Channel starting at 8:30 pm Eastern.

"The team ran very well at Charlotte last year, and we have a brand new truck ready to go down there. We have really good horsepower under the hood, and Charlotte is one of my favorite tracks. We'll see what happens down there, but I think you'll see the Team EJP Chevy up near the front."
